Election Blues

Posted by: chadcox on: September 3, 2008

I was just reading a blog about a friend’s election frustrations:

I really got sucked into this whole race to the white house. It’s all I can talk about. Now that I’m deeply invested, I remember how pissed off and depressed it makes me. I’m mostly pissed about the fact that I’m a democrat and democrats don’t vote in big numbers like the republicans. I hate that republicans represent the people in a different tax bracket than me, which means they don’t give a shit about my issues. I’m pissed because ours is a losing battle in almost  every election year. I hope to God my belief that America isn’t ready for Obama is untrue so I can put some faith back in this country.

I started replying and it got me to thinking that I couldn’t agree more with her.  Everyone wants change but no one wants to make make it happen (aka: vote!), they just want to bitch when we get a shitty president who can barely speak English, let alone run the country.  I want to believe that this election will see a record number of voters because of its historic nature and I hope that a lot of them vote for Obama.

I was watching the news this morning and the news anchors were saying that according to a poll conducted by CNBC or CNN (of course you have to take polls with a grain of salt) that something like 19% of white people surveyed said they wouldn’t vote for Obama just because he’s black. I refuse to believe that! Haven’t most of us moved past that yet?  I say most because you can’t really count the South, as they’re always ~10 years behind the collective social consciousness.  And that’s coming from someone who is from the south!

I feel change in the air.  I just hope it isn’t the stiff wind blowing out of McCain’s ass.

I’m right there with you. We have to find a way to get the youth out to vote. It is the only way this will change, in my opinion.

This whole chapter with Palin is just beyond ridiculous and all the Republicans have their smiles plastered on, blabbing about how great she is…….. it’s pathetic.

McCain is a complete and total sell out.
